Winter Care

If your bunny lives outdoors before winter make any repairs to your hutch and start covering your hutch windows  in late fall with heavy plastic. Its important to make sure your bunny doesn't have any wind on it bunnies can tolerate cold with the right conditions, but not being wet. You may want to offer your bunny some rolled oats a few days a week when the real cold comes, it will help your bunny with extra calories may want to add extra hay or  straw on the side where your bunny sleeps. It will need to be cleaned out from time to time. One of the hardest problems with having your bunny outside in the winter is your water bottles freeze, I have extra bottles to back up each of my rabbits so I can replace a frozen one in the morning then again at night.  You could also start using a heavy bowl during the winter . Remember if your bunny doesn't drink water because its frozen it won't eat and will dead very fast. When the real low temperatures come put a nest box in the hutch the bunny will stay warm in a tight small area like this one!  You could also move your rabbit into a garage. Most important check your bunny three times a day to see if it needs water, extra feed, fresh hay, a blanket!
